John R. McDonough
John McDonough was born in Portland, Maine and admitted to the Florida Bar in 1970 and the United State Courts of Military Appeals in 1974. John earned his Bachelor’s degree and law degree from the University of Florida. He is duly qualified and admitted to practice law in all Florida courts and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. He served in the United States Air Force as a Captain with the Judge Advocate General’s Corp (JAG). John is a member of the Florida Bar Association.
Mr. McDonough began his insurance defense practice with the firm of Pitts, Eubanks, Ross & Rumberger, Orlando, Florida, where he became a partner in the practice. Thereafter he practiced with the Orlando defense firm of Markel, McDonough & O’Neal. That firm, after many name changes, merged its practice with the firm of Allen & Newman, PLLC in 2010. John concentrates his practice to all aspects of insurance defense including motor vehicle accidents, wrongful death, products liability, premises liability, construction related defense, realtor errors and omissions, and general and professional liability.
Mr. McDonough is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). He is certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Circuit Court Mediator and has served as a member of the Judicial Nominating Committee for the 18th Judicial Circuit. John is rated “AV Preeminent” by Martindale-Hubbell.
His trial practice has included representation of the insureds for Chartis (AIG), Traveler’s, Zurich American, American Insurance Company, Georgia Casualty Insurance Company, Nautilus Insurance Company, Greenwich Insurance Company, Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, Allstate, Omni Insurance Company, Kemper Insurance Companies, Scottsdale Insurance Company, The Harford and Chubb.
In addition to his insurance litigation practice, Mr. McDonough has been a volunteer as a guardian ad litem for juvenile clients in Orange County, Florida during the last fifteen years.
