Timothy L. Hughes graduated from Butler High School in 1985. In 1989 Tim graduated from Grove City College, Pennsylvania with a B.S. in mechanical engineering, graduating cum laude. Tim was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force and worked as a mechanical engineer for four years. In that capacity he worked with government contractors, designing improvements to conventional weapons systems and conducting test programs. His exceptional engineering work and academic credentials earned him a full scholarship to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, School of Law, where he obtained his J.D. in 1996, graduating with honors.
Tim served six years as an attorney in the Air Force’s Judge Advocate General’s Department where he prosecuted and defended criminal trials. As a criminal defense attorney, he achieved an 80% acquittal rate on all litigated charges. Tim also has extensive experience in government contract law and provided litigation support to the Department of Justice on patent infringement and contract fraud cases. Tim is currently a Major in the Air Force Reserves, assigned to the 920th Rescue Squadron at Patrick AFB, Florida.
Tim has extensive experience in litigation, handling commercial, construction, professional liability defense, and intellectual property matters. He has experience in all aspects of litigation, mediation, loss prevention, and arbitration. One of Tim’s primary areas of expertise is construction litigation. He has represented owners, contractors, subcontractors and design professionals in a variety of construction disputes. Tim is also a patent attorney and specializes in intellectual property cases. He is experienced in representing clients involved in patent, copyright and trademark infringement disputes as well as cases involving complex engineering and design issues. Tim also files and prosecutes patent applications at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Tim and his wife, Elisa, have three sons and reside in Winter Garden, Florida. Tim is the Chairman of the Central Florida Christian Academy School Committee and is a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Central Florida. Tim enjoys sports, reading, and spending time with his family.
