John Bengier attended high school in Weirton, West Virginia, after which he attended West Virginia University and received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in 1972, graduating magna cum laude. He continued his education at West Virginia University College of Law. While is law school, he participated in a work/study program and assisted law professors in their legal research and writing. He graduated from law school in 1975.
From May 1975 through September 1998, Mr. Bengier served as a Judge Advocate in the United States Marine Corps and retired as a Colonel. As a prosecutor in the military justice system, he tried hundreds of cases to include murder, rape, robbery, drug law violations, theft and serious assaults. Between 1980 and 1997, a large portion of Mr. Bengier's practice involved labor law. During this time, he assisted the U.S. Attorney in a class action, racial discrimination lawsuit against a Marine base, reviewed a large number of proposed civilian disciplinary action, and represented the Marine Corps in a large number of proceedings before arbitration panels, the Merit Systems Protection Board, the EEOC, and the FLRA. He also sat as part of management's team during the negotiation of two master labor agreements. Between 1990 and 1996, Mr. Bengier also worked with State and Federal agencies regarding RCRA permit applications, environmental impact studies, and RCRA/CERCLA corrective actions regarding underground storage tank leaks and other corrective actions.
Mr. Bengier is a member of the West Virginia Bar, North Carolina Bar, Georgia Bar, Orange County Bar Association and Florida Bar. Since becoming a member of the Florida Bar in November 1998, he has focused his practice on insurance defense. He is admitted to the Middle District Court of Florida, and all State Courts within the State of Florida.
He and his wife, Pamela, live in Apopka, Florida. In addition to practicing law, Mr. Bengier has an interest in golf, the arts, and computers.
