David R. Lane is a native Floridian and a 1989 graduate of Winter Park High School. He is a 1994 graduate of the University of Florida, where he was an active member of Theta Chi Fraternity and was inducted into Florida Blue Key. Mr. Lane is a 2001 graduate of Tulane University School of Law where he was awarded the Certificate in Maritime Law.
After graduating from Tulane, Mr. Lane served as an Assistant State Attorney for the 18th Judicial Circuit in Brevard and Seminole counties. He served in the trial, intake and first appearance divisions in both county and circuit courts. In 2006, he became the General Counsel for the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office and served in that capacity for four years. While General Counsel for the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, he provided legal advice to the entire Sheriff’s Office, including the John E. Polk Correctional Facility. This gives Mr. Lane invaluable experience with the operations of law enforcement agencies and correctional facilities.
Mr. Lane is also a sworn reserve Deputy Sheriff for the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office and a graduate of the law enforcement academy at Seminole Community College. He is a FDLE certified general instructor, legal instructor and firearms instructor. Mr. Lane is an adjunct instructor at the Criminal Justice Institute of Valencia Community College where he teaches both basic recruits and sworn law enforcement officers on a variety of legal and courtroom topics. This experience gives him the ability to evaluate and defend against claims of inadequate training for law enforcement and correctional agencies.
David is a member of the Florida Bar, the State Bar of Texas and the Louisiana State Bar. He has been admitted to all federal courts in Florida, and many federal courts in Texas. In his free time, he enjoys serving as a reserve Deputy Sheriff, University of Florida athletics and spending time with his family.
